Through The Superficial: A Newbies Guide to Body Piercings

Being different is not that bad. It’s like a new twist in a boring recipe. No more same old, same old. Excitement has never been so body rushing and meaningful. Like tasting ice cream for the first time, nirvana is just a step away. Actually, everyone has their own peculiar practice or taboo, the problem is how society views it, and for me, it’s not an issue to be taken seriously or be condemned as long as no one is getting hurt or humiliated in the process. We have our own free will, and we owe no one any explanations.

Same goes with body piercings. A bit odd at first, it has been branded as unacceptable by most people, because they do have point, and that is why on earth would you pierce your own body?! Well for me that is a question that will be answered once you get one. Aside from the sensation, it is highly stylistic and brands the wearer with his or her own identity. Nothing beats a feel like having your own image, being care free and showing the world that peculiar things are beautiful in their own way.

Now if it’s your first time to get one and don’t know what type of piercing best suits you or what you like, here are a few of them to help you out. Remember that it’s just like getting a tattoo, you gotta think through it very carefully.

Industrial Piercings

These are known as bar piercings or scaffolds piercing and is connected with a single piece of straight jewelry. Often located in the upper ear cartilage and most frequently accepted among piercings. Takes at least 6 months to heal but can be swapped with jewelry by your piercer earlier.

Cartilage Piercings

These piercings are most commonly attached to the ridge of the upper ear. Available in captive ring or stud, these are the most common of all earrings out there. Heals within 6 months but can be replaced sooner.

Conch Piercings

Although new to the piercing industry, conch piercings still give a classy look with a new approach. Located commonly in the inner ear or outer portion of the conc, this piercing will take more time to heal but still cool none the less.

Rook Piercings

Similar to the conch, rook piercings are also new to the piercing world is mainly placed at the antihelix of the inner ear. It also takes more healing time since it pierces a not so common place in the ear.

Nose Piercings

Lastly, the most beautiful of all piercings for me are nose piercings. There’s nothing like a cute stud or nose ring in your nose as well as a pretty septum piercing to go with it. Also it is very easy to heal and as long as you take precautionary measures and follow proper hygiene and care. Take note that you can choose between studs and rings.
